A total of 28 teams will hit Lidcombe Oval in Sydney’s west this weekend for the second annual Western Sydney Sevens tournament.

Teams from NSW, Canberra, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea will compete in the Youth, Men’s and Women’s categories over the three days.

Craig Morgan, Western Sydney Two Blues General Manager and the man behind the tournament, said the weekend was more than just about rugby.

“Sevens is one of the fastest growing avenues of rugby, so I think it’s important for Sydney and NSW clubs to get behind the code to provide different opportunities to their players as we help facilitate the growth of rugby,” Morgan said.

“We thought Western Sydney would be the perfect opportunity to create a new event that supports the sevens format and delivers something different to the community in the west,” he added.

The competition is backed by a number of The Returned and Services League (RSL) clubs from NSW as well as community partners to raise funds and awareness for veterans and returning servicemen and women who form an integral part of the community.
