It was confirmed today that NSW Country Women and Sydney Women will face each other twice in games that will bring city versus country rivalry to the fore.

Sydney will host NSW Country on 23 September ahead of the NRC match between Sydney Men’s and Fiji Drua at Concord Oval. NSW Country will play Sydney Women on 7 October in a double-header with the NSW Country Eagles against Brisbane City.

NSW Rugby Pathway Co-Ordinator Matt Evrard said the programme underlines the growth of the game.

“This is yet another example of the strength and growth of women’s rugby in the past few years. As programme manager, I am extremely excited at the prospect of seeing these players being tested at a high standard, and fans can expect to see many of this year’s Super W players playing for both Sydney and Country. The level of support from the Sydney Women’s Rugby Union and the NSW Country Women’s Rugby Union has been amazing, and they have played a huge role in making these double-headers happen,” Evrard said.

Sydney have confirmed Campbell Aitken as Head Coach, Peter Hammond (Backs Coach) and Ryan Trbojevich (Forwards Coach). NSW Country have appointed Michael Burgess as Head Coach, Michael Howell as Assistant Coach and Amanda Fergusson as Team Manager.

“The quality of coaches appointed means that these players will receive a high level of learning in these programmes while given the best opportunity to show their talent and push for Super W selection,” Evrard said.
