“I’ll put my hand up wherever I am in the 23, so I always help my team however I can,” said Skelton.
The 25-year-old has notched up just over 60 caps for New South Wales, and was highly effective in his appearance off the bench against the Blues with a total of 40 running meters, 3 beaten defenders, 3 offloads and a turnover to his name.
To the damaging lock-forward, the NSW Waratahs is a place that he will holds dear.
“It’s very special. It is the first professional club that gave me the opportunity,” said Skelton.
“I was coming through the ranks of the Academy (Elite Youth Player Development) system and the group of guys that I’ve met over the years have obviously contributed to the player I am today, so I’m especially humble to be part of this club.”
The 135kg lock is excited about the idea of coming up against an old friend.
Melbourne Rebels’ Steve Cummins, a partner-in-crime of Big Will’s from back in the day, is likely to face off against him on Sunday afternoon.
“The thing about rugby is you could be in the squad together growing up and then you go down your own journeys and paths,” said Skelton.
“I’m excited to cross paths again with Stevey (Steve Cummins). He was my best mate and I’d like to see the best out of him this week.”
History will count for nothing when they run out against each other.
“Once you cross that white line… it’s all about the footy.”
