Dividing opinions for decades: playing jerseys. Today a mix of high-performance and fashion, it’s always a point of contention amongst rugby fans.
Over 2000 fan-votes have narrowed down the most iconic jersey of all-time!
Eight of the most iconic jerseys went through the ringer throughout 52 days of voting by the fans to choose the most iconic NSW Waratahs jersey of all time.
The jersey worn in the 2005 Super 12 season has been voted by our fans as their favourite jersey.
The striped sleeve jersey of 2005, donned by the likes of Nathan Grey, Phil Waugh, Lote Tuqiri and Wycliff Palu, went through a successful campaign where we reached the Grand Final where only to be pipped to the post by the Crusaders 35-25 at Jade Stadium in Christchurch.
THE FINALISTS
Winner: The Striped Sleeve
A fan favourite famously worn by the likes of Whitaker, Waugh, Vickerman and co. in the early-2000’s. Featuring a traditional collar with dark-blue striped sleeves.
2nd place: The Championship
Immortalised amidst a historic Championship win for the NSW Waratahs in 2014, the entirely sky-blue design will be forever attached to the state’s first Super Rugby title.
3rd place: Heritage
The original. An iconic piece of our state’s sporting history. An all sky-blue jersey with a traditional white collar, it’s been worn across generations of Waratah and is now re-created and worn each year when we face the Reds.
4th place: The X-Blade
The current playing kit, officially launched in late-2019 with the NSW Waratahs current supplier X-Blades. A fresh take on the famous sky blue, which features dark blue panelling around the collar and sides to complement the playing shorts.
