The NSW Waratahs have confirmed that captain, Rob Simmons has been ruled out of their Round 6 Vodafone Super Rugby AU clash with the Reds on Saturday night.
Simmons was named to start by Rob Penney on Thursday, with team management giving the skipper every opportunity to prove his fitness in the lead up to the game.
Despite Simmons’ best efforts to recover from a rib injury sustained in Round 4 against the Rebels, he was unable to pass the necessary markers to ensure he could return to play.
Tom Staniforth moves into the starting line up in place of Simmons, with Jed Holloway taking his position on the bench.
Michael Hooper will assume the captaincy in Simmons absence, with Alex Newsome to remain vice-captain.
