The NSW Waratahs are taking advantage of their two-week lead into the Trans-Tasman competition with players, coaches and staff heading to the Central West of NSW to conduct coaching sessions and visit rugby clubs.
The entire Waratahs squad will assemble in Orange on Sunday 2 May and will have a morning training session at Kinross Wolaroi School on Monday before running a community clinic later that day at Wade Park from 4:30-6:30pm with kids aged 6-16 welcome to attend.
On Tuesday morning the Waratahs are running a training session with the Clontarf Academy and will then break up into small groups to visit a total of 17 regional rugby clubs for their training at night.
The players will be billeted with local families after training on the Tuesday night allowing the players to make lasting and meaningful connections with the regions.
NSW Waratahs Co-Coach Jason Gilmore was thrilled that the team was able to get on the road and connect with communities out in the bush.
“This is the first time since COVID that we have been able to get out and connect with the communities in the country regions. Earlier this year we had a fantastic trip to Narrabri but were still in a COVID safe bubble and were unable to engage with the community as we would have liked.”
“We have very loyal and passionate fans in country NSW and the Central West of NSW is extremely important with many of our players hailing from this region. Max Douglas, Hugh Sinclair, and Harry Johnson-Holmes are all from Cowra while Jack Grant is from Orange.”
“The boys can’t wait to get on the road and connect with the central west of NSW”.
