The NSW Waratah’s brand-new state of the art facility at Moore Park is rapidly taking shape with fans now able to get a glimpse of the stadium’s stunning seating design.

NSW Waratahs and sports fans will be treated not only to a world class facility but also to a piece of art with the seating design created by award-winning Indigenous artist Tony Albert and has the theme of ‘Two Worlds Colliding’.

The two ends of the stadium are separated and distinguished by two different designs which symbolize land and water.

The land is signified by the geometric diamond designs taken from nature, while the bubble of concentric circles represent water.

The designs are abstract representations of Goanna (Gadigal) and Whale (Bidjigal) Totems, creating an element of friendly yet fierce competition.

NSW Waratahs outside back and indigenous rugby player Triston Reilly applauded the decision to have the artwork chosen for the seating design.

“I thought it was a great way to recognise indigenous Australians and our culture.  Indigenous athletes have given so much to Australian sport and its fantastic to have our culture represented in the stadium,” Reilly said.

“The Waratahs represent the whole of NSW, from the country to the beaches so when we play there it’s going to be a great meeting place for all our fans to come together.

“The seating tells a story and it resonates with us as a club and represents our fans as well.”

The artist hopes that the design will provide everyone who enters the new stadium with an engaging and beneficial experience.

“I believe in the ability that art has to elevate our experience of daily life, and to create environments that uplift and connect us,” said Tony Albert.

“It is my wish that in time, the Sydney Football Stadium will become a landmark destination within Sydney’s Cultural Precinct.”

Continuing on the theme of the sporting battles that are planned for the ground, he said: “I was really thinking about this idea of a football stadium, and the concept Two Worlds Colliding is the idea of friendly competition, two different elements or people coming together.”

NSW Waratahs CEO Paul Doorn said this was another landmark moment in the creation of the Waratahs incredible new home ground.

“What a fantastic addition to what will be a world-class facility,” Doorn said.

“To have the seating design revealed gives Waratahs fans a sneak peek at the future and is a significant milestone ahead of our return to our spiritual home at Moore Park.”

The Sydney Football Stadium is due for a practical completion in July 2022 and will be the Waratahs home ground from the 2023 season.
