NSW Junior State Championships to include Country and Metro Championships

NSW Juniors have unveiled a new look for the 2022 Positive Rugby Foundation NSW Junior State Championships, which will bring together the Country Championships and brand new Sydney Juniors Metro Championships.

Set to be held across the June long weekend, the state’s up and coming talent will go head to head in their respective Metro and Country zone draws across two days, before coming together for the State Championships finals series on Monday.

Sydney Juniors General Manager Ben Gregory said he is excited to bring the three events together in 2022.

“The June long weekend will be a fantastic festival of rugby union in New South Wales,” Gregory said.

“The new format was trialled in 2015, and while it didn’t continue at that point, this year the Zones recognised the need for change and hence the implementation of bringing together the three events.

“The new look Positive Rugby Foundation NSW Junior State Championships are designed to give our juniors the opportunity to play lots of rugby.

“The change also means that the pathways are now aligned for metro and country zones, which will reduce the burden on our juniors,” he said.

Following on from the success in 2021, the Positive Rugby Foundation NSW Junior State Championships will also be live streamed by NSW Rugby TV (powered by Cluch).

“To be able to live stream the Junior State Championships again in 2022 is a fantastic opportunity for our sport,” Gregory said.

“We will have two fields at each of the venue streamed for the Country and Metro Championships, with the same formula to follow for the Monday State Championships,” he said.
