The NSW Rugby community is mourning the loss of Rugby News owner and publisher Jim Davis, who passed away during the holiday period.

The popular magazine Rugby News has been a mainstay of Club Rugby and the first port of call for club rugby news and team lists for over 100 years.

Jim took over Rugby News after his close friend Eric Spilsted died in 2004, whom he had assisted with Rugby News for many years.

Jim had worked in advertising and marketing for many years, and during a particularly difficult period for print media, Jim and the team invested heavily in producing the Rugby News publication each week providing a vital source of information and content to grassroots rugby.

In the mid-2000s, he had the foresight to launch the Rugby News website, which was critical to the publication’s survival.

Jim, along with Eric previously, is the primary reason the publication remains in existence today and was able to celebrate its’ 100th anniversary last year.

NSW Rugby thanks Mr Davis for his passion and monumental contribution to our great game.

*A memorial is scheduled for Wednesday 8th February at 1:00pm at St Thomas’ Anglican Church, North Sydney.
