In an exciting development for the growth and alignment betweenNSW Rugby Union and Schools Rugby in Asia, Sports Management Australia (SMA) and NSW Rugby are combining expertise to provide elite Private Schools Rugby Coaching education throughout Asia.
The objective of the partnership is for the NSW Waratahs Academy Coaches and NSW Rugby Development Officers to provide expertise to Coaches of Asian Schools Rugby as well as increase the exposure of the Waratahs brand in Asia.
NSW Rugby Union coaches will provide high-performance programs and educate the school coaches in a one-day session, then supervise the delivery of the program during a two-day camp with the under 12’s to 18’s students at the schools.
The rugby camps will also provide opportunities for talent identification and allow NSW Rugby to form strong relationships with Asian Private Schools students for post-school Club Rugby in NSW.
NSW Waratahs CEO Paul Doorn said, “This is a ground-breaking agreement for NSW Rugby Union in the Asian Rugby market.”
“After a fantastic Rugby World Cup in Japan, rugby is growing rapidly in Asia and this partnership provides a great opportunity to help grow the game in the region, while at the same time strengthen the NSW Rugby Union and Waratahs brand in the lucrative Asian market.”
Mark Wilton, CEO Sports Management Australia, is delighted to be part of this exciting initiative.
“We’re extremely excited that we have an opportunity to bring both NSW Rugby Union and the NSW Waratahs to schools’ rugby in Asia,” Wilton said.
“NSW Rugby and the Waratah’s are synonymous in rugby and will create huge interest in the Asian rugby circle.
“Their experience and expertise greatly benefit rugby in Asia and will provide many opportunities for athletes as well as coaches to develop, and overall strengthen the Waratah’s brand. All of which we are proud to be a part of.”
