Al is like a fine red wine — powerful, full-bodied, and only improving with age. And if you’ve seen him extract himself from a ruck or maul with red dripping down his face, you’ll know he’s no stranger to a bit of claret.

Born and raised in Campsie, New South Wales, Alaalatoa followed a proud rugby lineage into the professional game, with his father representing Manu Samoa at the 1991 Rugby World Cup. His rugby education was shaped at Newington College before progressing through Australian U20s representative honours, laying the foundation for a long and decorated career at the top level.

A dominant scrummager and relentless competitor, Alaalatoa made his Brumbies debut in 2014 and quickly became a rock in the forward pack. His Super Rugby consistency earned him Wallabies selection in 2016, debuting off the bench against New Zealand. Since then, he has amassed 88 Test caps, establishing himself as a leader at both provincial and international levels. In 2020, he captained the Brumbies to the Super Rugby AU Premiership — the club’s first title since 2004 — and last season became the longest-serving captain in Brumbies history.

Heading into the 2026 season, Alaalatoa remains a cornerstone of the Brumbies. Focused on returning to full fitness, he continues to set the standard on and off the field, bringing leadership, experience, and unwavering commitment as he guides the next generation of Brumbies forwards and drives the club toward success.
