Born and educated in Sydney, Jake Gordon played his first rugby for the Canterbury Juniors.

Upon the completion of his schooling in 2011, Gordon signed with Sydney University Football Club where he faced such tough competition that it was four years before he cemented a spot in the top grade in 2015. After joining New South Wales on a one-year deal in 2016, he went on to win that year’s 2016 Buildcorp NRC Players’ Player, as voted by his peers, at the annual RUPA Awards, finishing the season as joint leading try-scorer (nine) for the NSW Country Eagles.

Gordon joined the NSW Waratahs in 2017 and made his Super Rugby debut against the Lions in Johannesburg following an ankle injury to Nick Phipps. He impressed for the Waratahs so much during a solid Super Rugby season that he went on to debut for the Wallabies in 2018 against Italy on that year’s Spring Tour in Padova. He also captained NSW Country in their 2019 NRC campaign.

The Sydney-born scrum-half has become a pivotal part of the Waratahs’ spine, captaining the side since 2021. While he also remains a key cog of the Wallabies’ team, becoming first choice after Joe Schmidt took the role in 2024. In 2025, Gordon started the first two Test matches for the Wallabies against the British & Irish Lions, scoring a try in the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He battled with a hamstring injury to begin The Rugby Championship, before being recalled to the squad for the Bledisloe Cup and then starting all five matches in the green and gold on the end of year tour.
