Spring Club 7s Round One - Dream 7

by Waratahs Media
Spring Club 7s is the exciting new initiative for Shute Shield teams to test their skills in a 7s environment.

Rugby 7s is a fast growing sport and one that truly tests the players speed and agility.

The tournament, in which eight of the Shute Shield teams are competing, takes place across three rounds, with teams playing multiple games on each day.

Tournament Director Michael Doyle said if round one is anything to go by, the final two rounds will be very exciting.

“It’s great to see these lads compete in a much faster version of the game than the XVs format they are used to,” Doyle said.

“There were lots of tries scored, lots of strong tackles and some great aerial skills on display.”

Round one of the tournament is now complete, with Northern Suburbs Rugby Club defeating West Harbour 26 to 12 in a thrilling final.

In an exciting addition to the competition, each round a ‘Dream 7’ team will be chosen.

Some solid performances, and good plays, made it hard for selectors to narrow it down to just seven players.

Northern Suburbs Rugby Club, who finished round one in first place, secured two spots in the ‘Dream 7’ with captain Sam Myers and consistent kicker Sam Giltrap both achieving selection.

Sam Giltrap was also named as player of the day.

The second placed West Harbour Rugby Club’s Tavite Gadesiuva and forward Damien Flemming were also named in the team for their consistency and speed.

Gordon Rugby Club’s Matt Hood, Dietrich Roach of Western Sydney Two Blues and Deon Evans from First Nations Rugby Club completed the round one ‘Dream 7.’

Easts Rugby Club is hosting Round 2 of the Spring Club 7s this Sunday. Great sport, live music and more will make it a great festival atmosphere with action underway at Woollahra Oval from 8am with finals commencing at 2pm.
