NSW Rugby Union has announced the induction of two distinguished contributors to the game - Roger Davis and Angus Bruxner - as the latest recipients of NSW Rugby Honorary Life Membership, recognising their extraordinary service and lifelong commitment to rugby in New South Wales.
Roger Davis is widely respected as one of the leading figures in Australian rugby during the 1970s, representing University of Sydney, Sydney, New South Wales and the Wallabies across a celebrated playing career spanning more than a decade.
A premiership winner at club level and a three-time Test match player against the All Blacks, Davis also went on to serve the game in administration, including as Chairman of the New South Wales Rugby Union.
Beyond rugby, Davis has enjoyed an outstanding professional career. A Rhodes Scholar, he completed his Masters studies at Oxford University and has since become one of Australia’s leading business figures, currently serving in senior leadership roles across the investment banking, funds management and property sectors.
NSW Rugby Chairman Tony Crawford said Davis’ contribution to rugby had left a lasting impact both on and off the field.
“Roger Davis represents the very best of rugby in New South Wales - excellence in performance, leadership, and service,” Crawford said.
“His achievements as a player speak for themselves, but equally significant has been his contribution to the governance and growth of the game. Roger’s influence has extended well beyond rugby through his leadership in business and the community, and NSW Rugby is proud to recognise him with Honorary Life Membership.”
Joining Davis as an Honorary Life Member is Angus Bruxner, whose decades of service to community rugby have had a profound impact across multiple levels of the game.
A member of The Rugby Club since 1996, Bruxner has held numerous executive leadership positions including Vice President, President and currently Chairperson of The Rugby Club Foundation, where he played a pivotal role in transitioning the organisation into a modern not-for-profit foundation focused on supporting rugby across New South Wales.
Bruxner was also one of the founding members of Sydney Harlequins Rugby Football Club and has served continuously as President since 2011, while remaining heavily involved in match day operations and team management.
His contribution to grassroots rugby extends to the NSW Suburban Rugby Union, where he has served as a Board Member and Treasurer, alongside ongoing volunteer service during finals series and competition operations.
Crawford said Bruxner’s dedication embodied the spirit of community rugby.
“Angus Bruxner has devoted countless hours to strengthening and supporting rugby at grassroots level,” Crawford said.
“His leadership, volunteerism and passion for the game have helped shape clubs, competitions and organisations across the rugby landscape. People like Angus are the backbone of our game, and this recognition is richly deserved.”
NSW Rugby CEO Peter Murphy said both inductees represented the values and traditions of rugby in New South Wales.
“Honorary Life Membership is one of the highest recognitions our Union can bestow,” Murphy said.
“Roger and Angus have each made remarkable contributions to rugby in very different but equally meaningful ways. Their impact on the game, the rugby community and the people around them will continue to be felt for many years to come.”
The two inductees were formally recognised at the NSW Rugby Annual General Meeting, joining an esteemed group of individuals acknowledged for exceptional service to rugby in New South Wales.
