The Waratahs push over the line in a tight finish in Round 4 of the Buildcorp Super W Competition, defeating the Queensland Reds 31-30.

It was a brutal affair between the competition heavyweights, but Aitkens women proved too strong for the Reds.

Desiree Miller, Bridie O’Gorman and Rosie Ebbage starred in the 1-point victory. Miller was near perfect with the boot and scored a double, Bridie and Rosie were relentless at set piece.

Bridie O’Gorman grabbed the first try of the match as she barged over the line shortly followed by a successful conversion by Desiree Miller.

The Reds struck back with two quick tries and a penalty to take the lead.

Miller used her speed to blow past the defence scoring a brilliant try in the corner, however, the Tahs went in at halftime behind by 5.

The Waratahs started the second half strong with a devastating break from Leilani Nathan, offering a quick pass to Georgina Friedrich’s who made her presence known as she scored one of her trademark tries. Miller was able to slot the conversion from the sideline to take the lead.

Desiree Miller continued to finish with perfection as she crossed for her double for the afternoon.

The Reds however would not go away and put another try on the board. Adiana Talakai and the forwards took it upon themselves to try and push the game out of reach. A perfectly executed rolling maul allowed the home side to push the lead to nine.

The Reds women would not roll over and took the game past the 80-minute mark with a late penalty and a try on full time.

However, the Waratahs managed to hold on amidst the frantic end to the match as Georgina Friedrich’s saved the day winning a penalty for the Waratahs.

Just a one point off the margin, the finishing score for the afternoon was 31-30. The Waratahs now turn their attention to their round five fixture against the Melbourne Rebels at AAMI Park on Friday 21 April.
