NSW Rugby Union has reinforced its commitment to growth, alignment, and inclusivity at its Annual General Meeting, highlighting a year of strong progress across the game while marking a historic step forward for women’s rugby governance.

The meeting formally received the 2025 Annual Report, which outlined a year defined by strategic momentum, participation growth and strengthened community impact across New South Wales.

The AGM acknowledged the ongoing contribution of the organisation’s leadership, including President Matthew Burke and the NSW Rugby Board, led by Chairman Tony Crawford, alongside Chief Executive Officer Peter Murphy.

A key moment of the meeting was the recognition of NSW Rugby’s Honorary Life Members, celebrating individuals who have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the game. Their legacy continues to shape the strength and spirit of rugby across the state. With the exciting announcement of Roger Davis and Angus Bruxner as the latest Honorary Life Members.

In a landmark decision, members approved a constitutional amendment to formally include NSW Women’s Rugby as an affiliate and Full Member of the NSW Rugby Union Board - making NSW Rugby the first Member Union in Australia to implement this governance model.

The amendment reflects the rapid growth of the women’s game and reinforces NSW Rugby’s commitment to ensuring it is supported by strong, representative governance structures into the future.

The Annual Report highlighted key achievements across 2025, including increased participation, investment in community rugby, and the continued rollout of the Rugby World Cup 2027 Legacy Program - a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen the game at all levels.

NSW Rugby’s Rugby For Good initiatives also continued to deliver meaningful outcomes across mental health, inclusion and community development, further demonstrating the game’s impact beyond the field.

NSW Rugby Chairman Tony Crawford said the organisation remains focused on building a strong and sustainable future for the game:

“2025 has been a significant year for NSW Rugby, marked by progress, alignment, and a clear focus on the future of the game in New South Wales. We are committed to ensuring rugby continues to grow sustainably and remains accessible to communities across the state.”

CEO Peter Murphy reinforced the importance of capitalising on the opportunities ahead:

“This has been a year of momentum, alignment and purpose for NSW Rugby. Our focus remains on strengthening our foundations while positioning the game to maximise the opportunities presented by the Rugby World Cups in 2027 and 2029.”

With strong foundations in place, NSW Rugby enters the next phase of its strategic plan with confidence - driven by a clear focus on participation growth, community impact, and long-term sustainability.

The AGM outcomes reflect a united and forward-looking organisation, committed to growing the game and ensuring rugby continues to thrive across New South Wales.
