The NSW Waratahs are delighted to announce their leadership group for the 2024 season.
In his eight season with the Waratahs, halfback Jake Gordon will again have the honour of captaining the club.
Alongside him as the team’s Vice-Captain is David Porecki, who is also the incumbent Wallabies Captain.
Finalising the leadership group is Waratahs stalwart Hugh Sinclair, who has continued his development as a genuine leader since making his debut for the club back in 2019.
Waratahs Coach Darren Coleman is thrilled to have the leadership capabilities of Gordon, Porecki and Sinclair leading the club forward in 2024 and beyond.
“The beauty of our leadership group is that it was peer-elected and endorsed by the coaching staff,” Coleman said. “Our players clearly trust these three men and are willing to follow them.
“The coaching group have the utmost respect and faith in how these men will uphold our values and standards. The binding aspect of all three men is that they all care deeply for the team, the jersey, and exemplify Tah Toughness.”
As the Waratahs look to celebrate the 150th anniversary of rugby in NSW, Gordon expressed his pride in captaining the club in such a special milestone year.
“It’s an incredible honour to captain the Waratahs once again this season,” Gordon said. “It’s an honour that I will never take for granted and to be able to lead the Waratahs in the 150th year of rugby in NSW makes it extra special.”
Porecki’s commitment to the club is evidenced by the star hooker recent extending his contract until at least the end of 2026.
“I love the Waratahs and everything this club is about,” Porecki said. “As soon as I had the dream to be a professional rugby player, I knew I wanted to be a Waratah.
It’s a privilege to be named as Vice-Captain. I look forward to supporting Jake and the team in 2024.
“We have an opportunity to achieve something special as a group in an important year for the Waratahs so we’re looking forward to getting started.”
The Waratahs season kicks off against traditional rivals the Queensland Reds at 8:05pm on Saturday 24 February at Suncorp Stadium.
The Waratahs first home game for the year is in Round 3 against the Highlanders at 7:35pm on Friday 8 March at Allianz Stadium.
