Richard “Dick” Shaw Vale

NSW Rugby Union Honorary Life Member Richard “Dick” Shaw sadly passed away yesterday.

Dick was made an Honorary Life Member of the NSW Rugby Union in 2015 for his outstanding and long contribution to the game at many levels.

Dick was a Foundation Life Member of the Mosman Rugby Club where he also played and spent time on the Committee before moving to Northern Suburbs where he spent 19 years as a Director including President.

Dick was involved at the representative level where he managed several teams including the famous Sydney team that defeated the All Blacks in 1992, NSW Waratahs (1993-95) in the Super 10 Competition, and went on to manage Australia.

Dick was a Director of the Sydney Rugby Union (4 years) and NSW Rugby Union (9 years). He was also awarded an Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for his services to Rugby.

Dick’s passion and lifelong love of the game were highly regarded by his extensive network of teammates, colleagues, fellow Directors, and players. It was rare not to find him on the sideline of a Mosman, Northern Suburbs, Waratah, and Wallaby home game.

He was also a wonderful fundraiser and would be the first to arrange a function, organise a table, or support a worthy cause. He will be sorely missed by the whole rugby community.

Our condolences and thoughts to his wife Georgie, children Samantha & Michael, and the extended family.

RIP
