The NSW Waratahs are thrilled to announce that Jake Gordon has signed a two-year extension to remain with the team until the end of the 2025 Super Rugby season.

Gordon, a product of the NSW pathways, attending Blackwattle Bay High School and playing for Canterbury Juniors, before representing Sydney University in the Shute Shield, and the NSW Country Eagles in the NRC.

The 29-year-old scrumhalf has been an integral member of the Waratahs squad since making his debut in 2017, scoring 25 tries in his 78 appearances for the team.

Gordon was appointed captain of the side ahead of the 2021 season and has led the team with distinction on and off the field. The Waratahs skipper has been one of the most consistent performers in Super Rugby over the past two seasons and was awarded the Waratahs best back for their 2021 and 2022 campaigns.

The Waratahs skipper made his Wallaby Test debut under Michael Cheika in 2018 against Italy and was a mainstay of Dave Rennie’s Wallaby sides wearing Wallaby gold on 20 occasions.

Gordon was ecstatic to continue to represent his home state, the Waratahs and Australian Rugby for a further two seasons.

"I'm really excited to be re-signing with the Waratahs and Australian Rugby for another two years," said Gordon.

"I've been fortunate enough to play for this team for a number of years now, and I believe that we have a group of players and coaches who are all committed to building something special here in New South Wales.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for Australian Rugby and something that I’m desperate to continue to be a part of.

“We’ve got a World Cup this year and a home British Irish Lions tour in 2025, so there’s no place I’d rather be to try and push my claims to wear Wallaby gold.” Head coach of the Waratahs, Darren Coleman, expressed his delight at Gordon's decision to extend his contract with the team.

"Jake is a fantastic player, and an even better person," said Coleman.

"He's a natural leader and has done an exceptional job as our captain.

“We're thrilled that he's chosen to remain with the Waratahs for the next two years,

Wallabies Head Coach Eddie Jones said: “Jake is an experienced player and to have him re-sign with Australian Rugby is positive.”

“He is a leader at the Waratah and someone who will be important for them throughout the Super Rugby season.”

Gordon's re-signing is another significant boost for the Waratahs, who have recently locked in key players Angus Bell, Jed Holloway, and Charlie Gamble.

The Waratahs will face the Brumbies this Saturday 1 April in a huge double header at GIO Stadium in Canberra.
