The NSW Waratahs have confirmed the U16 and U19 sides for Round 2 of the National Championships to be held at Waratahs HQ this Sunday 16 October at the University of NSW David Philips Sports Complex at Daceyville.

After a clean sweep of victories in the U15, U16, and U19 age groups last weekend against the Reds in Brisbane, the Waratahs Academy teams now turn their attention to the Brumbies.

The Waratahs U16 side put in a dominant performance against their Queensland counterparts running out 32-3 winners while the U19s overcame a slow start and a 19-3 half-time deficit to win 29-26.

The Brumbies went one from two last weekend against the Western Force with their U19 side winning 62-27, while their U16s were stunned 26-20.

Waratahs Head of Talent Management Andrew Cleverley was delighted with the maturity and skillset on display last weekend against the Reds.

“I was really impressed with the U16s performance last week, from everyone in the match day 23. They dominated from start to finish and the bench provided plenty of punch late in the game against one of the toughest teams in the competition,” Cleverley said.

“Our U19s team showed great character in the second half of their match, showing the quality and perseverance we expect from a Waratahs team.

“They were able to score three tries in nine minutes to start the half and get back in the game, which is also a good reflection of the coaching messaging at halftime and the application we expect to see from our academy players.

“The Brumbies will offer another stern test this weekend and we’re expecting a tough battle up front from their forward packs. We know they like to play from set piece to set piece and their U19 squad proved their quality in their previous fixture against the Force.”

All matches will be shown live, ad-free, and on-demand on Stan Sport.
