Now the 27-year-old is captain of the Wallaroos, has been a part of two NSW Waratahs Super W Premiership titles and in her work life, is helping more children realise their passion for sport as the Senior Sports Coordinator at Scots College.
It’s not uncommon to see Hamilton also on the sidelines at school’s rugby in her role with Scots College, supporting the next generation of New South Wales talent. She is also seeing first hand the next generation who are participating in the global program – the Duke of Edinburgh International Award.
Recently NSW Rugby Union announced a new partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, which will give NSWRU the opportunity to work directly with young people through Rugby clubs, community organisations and schools across key areas that contribute to achieving the Award.
Hamilton not only participated in the Duke of Edinburgh program growing up, but in her role with Scots College is working alongside the school students participating in DoE
“The Duke of Ed I believe opens your eyes at a young age to how much you can give back to the community whilst developing your personal skills outside the classroom.
“It allowed me to give back through community service and allows you to participate in activities and gain skills you never though you had in sports and outdoor activities.
“Now that you can do this award in partnering with Rugby Clubs it’s only going to increase the enjoyment and spirit of our great game.
“I see a lot of Duke of Ed students go through the school (Scots College) and sign off most of the sporting commitments.
“The ways in which these students apply themselves in each level allows students to not only develop their skills through the education system however allows them to interact with the community and gain outside practical experience at a young age. It really opens their eyes and broadens their horizons for the next phase of their lives.”
Moving into a leadership role within her Rugby career, Hamilton is once again humbled at the opportunity to represent her country.
“Being able to lead this group of wonderful women is a complete honour its been such a lovely experience so far.”
Hamilton and her fellow Wallaroos will prepare to take on Japan this week after a solid win in their first test last weekend.
The partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award is the latest in a series of new initiatives being championed through the Positive Rugby Foundation, which is investing in resources to provide more opportunities to young people in rugby.
