The NSW Waratahs Youth Girls Academy Program is set to embark on an exciting new chapter with the introduction of an U18 age group and the addition of three new teams from the Sydney metropolitan area: Sydney North, Sydney South East, and Sydney West.
This expansion marks a significant milestone in the program's evolution, signalling its continued commitment to nurturing young female rugby talent and providing pathways for their growth and development.
This is a Rugby For Good program and is proudly supported by The NSW Positive Rugby Foundation and the Our Turn Your Time program.
The decision to expand the program comes on the heels of a highly successful 2023/24 season, with overwhelming positive feedback from participants, coaches, and stakeholders.
The program's emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and personal growth has resonated with all involved, making it a standout initiative on the rugby calendar.
Mike Ruthven, Waratahs Women’s Director of High Performance, emphasised the importance of the program as a pathway to identify and retain talented young females in rugby.
"The expansion of the Youth Girls Academy Program reflects our commitment to creating a clear pathway for young female athletes to pursue their rugby aspirations," said Ruthven.
"By providing high-quality coaching, opportunities for competitive play, and holistic support, we aim to empower these athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the field."
The expanded program will consist of two training sessions before Christmas, followed by a three-day camp in January for all teams.
The camp will serve as a crucial opportunity for players to bond, refine their skills, and prepare for the upcoming weekend of games at the end of January.
Importantly, the program will incorporate a Mental Health and Wellbeing component, recognising the importance of supporting participants both on and off the field.
With the addition of the U18 age group and the new teams from Sydney, the Waratahs Youth Girls Academy Program is poised for continued growth and success.
The program's expansion not only provides more opportunities for young female rugby players but also strengthens the talent pipeline for the future of women's rugby in New South Wales.
Players will be from a range of rugby events throughout the year including the NSW Junior Rugby Union State Titles, Club & Zone competitions and NSW Schools competitions and gala days. Coaching Expressions of interest will be called for in the coming days.
As the program gears up for its next chapter, anticipation is high among players, coaches, and supporters alike.
